LIGHT
PLAY
A
series of large scale photographs captures light traces and patterns
against a background of urban landscapes. The images were inspired
by festive illuminations seeming to spring to life in winter's twilight.
Some
of the images suggest fleeting bursts of energy; others evoke the
fluid outlines in the aerial morphing of a flock of starlings at
dusk. The ephemeral nature of these enigmatic images reflects transience
and uncertainty.
The
photographs were taken using traditional 35mm film and zoom lens. |

SIGNS
AND TRACES
Accounts
of unusual terrain and landscapes scarred by centuries of volcanic
eruptions led Val de Furrentes to Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands,
near the West African coast.
Despite
the region's hostile nature, the land yields grapes, hot weather
vegetables, and tobacco. This series of photographs of a bleak,
lava strewn landscape, captures the signs and traces of the habitation
and cultivation of a seemingly barren and alien territory.
